Tips for Preparing Your Boat for Resale

Published

Whether you’re done with boating as a whole, or simply interested in trading up, we encourage you to check out our helpful tips on boat resale. Then, when you’re ready, you can visit one of our locations in Rancho Cordova, or Homewood, California, and sell your boat today!

Service Your Boat

The first thing you’ll want to do before selling your boat is visit a mechanic. Have them Inspect your ship thoroughly so you’re aware of any issues it may have. You can choose to have the issues fixed, complete repairs yourself, or sell as is. This decision is completely up to you, just be aware it will affect your boat’s value. Before you leave be sure to get a receipt or report detailing what was done. If you can, you might also request reports for past repairs or maintenance as well.

Organize Documents

Now that you’ve gotten your equipment fixed up you’ll need to organize your boating documents for future buyers. This includes not only your boat title and registration but any warranties or accident history (if your boat has them). You’ll also want to compile any and all service records to help confirm that your ship is in good condition. If you can’t get your hands on these you may be interested in getting a professional marine survey.

Clean Your Boat

Be sure to remove all personal items from your boat, whether you want to keep them or not. Give your ship a deep clean from head to toe, paying extra attention to the hull and deck. If you didn’t have your mechanic do it, you may want to oil and lube various parts, change or replace fluids, and replace deteriorating equipment.
